Job Requirements & Responsibilities
The Laboratory Assistant incumbent should provide accurate, timeous and reliable results. The incumbent is also responsible for the production of media for microbiology testing and consumables for customers. This involves the evaluation of microbiological samples received from the Processing plant to assist in the quality control of all procedures and all production units to ensure that they are free microbial contaminants. These tests are performed routinely to establish a history of all production flocks.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or Equivalent
Relevant Tertiary Qualification will be an added advantage.
Computer Literacy.
One Year Relevant Experience.
Valid Driver’s License.
Conversant in English and IsiZulu.
Attention to detail & Accuracy.
Be able to work Sterile.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Ability to work as part of a team or independently when required.
Must be responsible, reliable, and efficient.
Must be passionate and aligned with our vision, mission, values and operating principles.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that all media are correctly identified and prepared in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Ensure that all media has passed a Quality assurance test procedure and that these records are maintained at all times.
Prepare contact plates, salts, drag swabs, dust swabs and bait swabs for farm testing and ensure these are readily available.
Ensures that the conductivity and pH water is tested on daily use or when testing required. Elga water to be tested weekly for TVC.
Maintains the upkeep of the water distiller and all media preparation equipment.
Ensure all quality forms for Media preparation is conducted and completed as required.
Ensures that glassware must be autoclaved as per procedure.
Ensure all COA are checked and signed off on receipt and if not received ensure it is requested.
Ensure that the Processing plant and Farms receive bottles and media for daily sampling and during the week or when requested.
Ordering of stock/consumables timeously. Do not over order.
Ensuring stock levels are maintained.
Receive and sign off items on the BR and consumables order book.
Assist with bacteriology activities when required.
Perform all the necessary administrative duties.
Ensure high level of customer service by providing accurate results within the reasonable time.
